The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series witnessed massive arguments amongst the community over the playoffs format. A majority wants to go back to the original full-season format and NASCAR is planning to make changes from 2026. But Joey Logano is still defending the format and after last Sunday’s finale, he even took some dig at the critics.

Kyle Larson won the championship, after he finished better than any of his final four rivals, despite not leading a single lap of the event. Seeing the dramatic race, some fans argued in favor of the format and Joey Logano was asked about it on his post-race interview. The Team Penske racer used this opportunity to take a sarcastic dig the critics of the format.

Is that because Larson won and I didn’t?

Joey Logano responded to journalist John Newby.

Further defending the format, the three times Cup Series champion pointed out that the racing fans wants to see the dramatic season finale like the 2025 event. The finale according to him has always delivered heavyweight battles and pointed out that some fans are now celebrating the same format when their favorite driver won.

There are four wide across the line in front. What else do people want? Right now, they’re for heavyweight dogs or sport racing to win, what else could you want? I don’t get it. But I’m sure they’re not complaining now about the format as they sit there and celebrate.

Joey Logano declares Kyle Larson deserves to win the championship

In the same conversation, Joey Logano shared his feelings about the Hendrick Motorsports driver winning the championship over Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin. He declared the Chevy racer deserved the title win, being a great racer and admitted that he has always been intrigued about the work the veteran has done with HMS.

Kyle deserves this. He’s a fantastic racer. He does it a lot different than me so its interesting to see how they do over here.

Joey Logano said.

Further talking about the point, he pointed out that having the backing of HMS, the team that shows up when it matters the most played a significant role in his triumph. Hence, they also deserve the credit for the second career title Kyle Larsom secured.

They obviously have great team Hendrick Motorsports… but and they show up when it matters. They do that really well yeah, they were down-and out today and figured a way to win the race or win championship so you know kudos to them good job to them.

Joey Logano added.

The results made Larson the first non-Penske driver to win a championship in the Next-Gen era. This might have left a sour taste in the mouth of Joey Logano, who was the defending champion. He would be more motivated to bounce back in 2026 not only to reclaim the title, but also to silence the haters.
