The 2025 NASCAR Cup season was a year of mixed feelings for Chevy team Trackhouse Racing. They came into the season with three cars, as Shane van Gisbergen making his rookie debut. They scored six wins this season, with five of them coming at road courses with dominant SVG in the No:88 Chevy. The other sole win for Justin Marks’ team came from star racer Ross Chastain.

But both drivers failed to make a mark in the playoffs, as they got eliminated early owing to poor runs. Daniel Suarez, the third driver of the team had his career worse season with the No:99 team, as he ended the year winless. It also marked the last season of Trackhouse’s longest serving racer as he parted ways with the team to join Spire Motorsports.

He will be replaced by Conor Zilisch, who finished P2 in the 2025 Xfinity Series with ten race wins to his name. Alongside the driver change they made multiple crew and number changes as well. SVG’s No:88 will be given to Zilisch, and the Kiwi will drive the No:97, the iconic number he used since his early racing years.

The ownership side also saw a massive change, as the long-time co-owner of the team, Popstar Pitbul decided to sell his stakes. With new co-owners on board, Marks has taken full control of the team, and has avoided any negative results in the market after losing two international personals from the team.

The owner driver saw this as an opportunity and decide to make the great reset for the team ahead of 2026. They will go into the 2026 season with a different team, strong group of drivers. He sees the upcoming season as the start of a big step in creating the team’s legacy and make them a dynasty such as the likes of Team Penske and HMS.

There was an opportunity for the 2026 season to kind of reset everything. We looked at the organization as a whole and see the 2026 season as the next iteration of Trackhouse. Ross, Shane, and Connor are all excited about who they’re working with next year. This is another big step in creating the Trackhouse legacy.

Justin Marks’ new driver Conor Zilisch has big shoes to fill in the 2026 season

The driver that is under the most pressure going into the 2026 season at Trackhouse will be rookie Conor Zilisch. He will drive the iconic No:88 Chevy, that was once drove by the likes of Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Dale Jarrett.

The youngster used the same number on his rookie Xfinity season and proved his worth, scoring 10 wins, though unfortunately he failed to convert it to a win. The recent history of the number is elite as well, considering in 2025, SVG secured five wins in the car, making NASCAR history.

Talking about all this in the latest announcement of Trackhouse’s 2026 plans, Zilisch shared his fillings about the new journey.  He admitted that considering the history of the number and the legends that used it, he has big shoes to fill.

It’s cool for me to carry on the legacy of the 88 number. That number has quickly become important to me and the history of that number in the sport with Shane, Dale Jr., Dale Jarrett, and everyone who has run the 88. I certainly have big shoes to fill.

The comments from the youngster shows how excited he is about the Cup opportunity and how much he respects the legacy of the number. It would be interesting to see how well Zilisch will perform on his rookie season.
