Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin started the 2024 season on high with winning three races and being in the fight for almost 80% of the races in the regular season but he has hit a performance slump as the playoff closed down and his first two outing in the last-16 has been disaster for him as it saw him finish outside the top-20.
2014 NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick shared his concerns about the JGR driver and his recent form. He admitted that it pains him to see the No:11 Toyota driver struggle as since the start of season he has been banking on the TRD star to win the title. The ex-SHR driver asserted that everything went wrong for Denny Hamlin at the wrong time.
Just pains me. I had so much banking on Denny Hamlin, and here we are… The bad part is I want him to win. I want him to win the championship, and all this just unraveled at the wrong time. Everything in the sport, all the stuff, it just all unraveled at the wrong time.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
Hamlin is currently six points off the R-16 cut-off line and has to produce a perfect weekend to secure a spot in the Next-Round. He also talked about how Hamlin is going to Bristol with the hopes of winning races, with extra confidence, and asserted that it will not be an easy outing for them.
I don’t have the utmost confidence that they can pull out of it, unfortunately, but I think if they are, they’re happy that they’re going to Bristol, because, you know, they could win anywhere, but going to Bristol is like a step up on the confidence bracket.Kevin Harvick added.
Kevin Harvick co-host names Denny Hamlin as the driver at the most pressure
In the same podcast, Harvick’s co-host Mamba Smith asserted that Denny Hamlin has the most pressure of any drivers on the current grid regarding performances. He highlighted how everything went in the wrong direction since Atlanta for the No:11 team.
It’s Denny. It’s not even close. They have had the most pressure since they left Atlanta. Once the strategy went south, and then into this week, and they started the race and got wrecked on lap zero, and now they’re down six.Mamba Smith said via the podcast.
Hamlin and Co are coming into this weekend’s race at Bristol hoping to secure a race win and the only way he could land one is with perfect execution. The last two races showed the crew has to take some risky strategies instead of playing it safe.
