The 2024 NASCAR Cup season marked the return of Chase Elliott’s return to form, after a poor 2023 season that saw him miss out on the playoffs, after going winless. But now he has found himself in a tough spot in the Round of 8, as he is in a must-win situation to secure a place in the championship-4 compared to his teammates Kyle Larson and William Byron.

Many sees this Sunday’s race at Homestead Miami, Straight Talk Wireless 400, as his best shot at making it into the finale. But Kevin Harvick doesn’t buy into this claim, as he believes Martin Truex Jr., would have a better shot at winning the race. It seems the 2014 Cup champion doesn’t think the No:9 doesn’t have a chance despite their consistency.

I don’t think so. I think that, for me, the guy that I would — that is not in the playoffs, I think that this could be a place that Truex could possibly put it all together.

Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

He pointed out that though Elliott and team has been fast, they haven’t been strong enough to dominate the races. Harvick pointed out that he thinks the No:9 team can win, but it will be really hard considering their pace.

They’ve been very consistent, they’ve just been a little short on the speed that they need to go out and dominate a race, and I just don’t know — I’m not saying it can’t happen … I don’t think the No. 9 is going to go out there and just dominate a race.

The ex-SHR driver in the same podcast named the main challengers for Elliott in the race. He named the trio of Kyle Larson, Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell, as the drivers with the best shot at winning this weekend.

I think you’re going to have to go through the No. 5 and the No. 45 and the No. 20, because those guys are — the No. 20 is on kill. The No. 5 is so good at Homestead, and the No. 45, he knows — he’s got to know that this is his weekend.

The three drivers Kevin Harvick has names are on top form and seems they are in the best place to make into the championship-4. It will be interesting to see if Chase Elliott can prove his ex-rivals wrong and make it into the finale.
