The NASCAR Cup garage is at Talladega this week for the YellaWood 500, the second playoff race in the Round-12. The post-season garage is going head-to-head against each other, with the hopes of securing a win and lock in a R-8 spot. But the non-playoff drivers are determined to play spoiler like Ross Chastain at Kansas, with Dega being the last track for many drivers to give a genuine fight for race win.
2014 NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick has picked the driver who he sees as the best choice to win the race. He is backing defending champion Ryan Blaney to score a win and placed himself in a solid spot for the championship chase. The ex-SHR driver sees the Team Penske crew to make a real difference.
It’s the best choice one could make for the race considering the impressive form Penske has shown in wild card races this season. Blaney’s statement win in the Dega playoff race last year helped him to win the championship and if he can pull off another one this season, it might help him to make it into the last-4 with some ease.
Kevin Harvick’s co-host picks Todd Gilliland to win at Talladega
While Harvick made the most general pick, his co-host Mamba Smith has a bold prediction. He reckons Todd Gilliland has the best shot at winning the race, like Harrison Burton did at Daytona. Smith believes in the impressive pace and aggressiveness the team has shown in the Superspeedways.
The 2024 season so far has been great for Todd Gilliland and Dega might be right time for him to secure the long-awaited win. Burton and Austin Cindric who debuted with him in 2022 has won races and he is the only one from that group to secure a Cup win. It will be interesting to see whose prediction will comes to fruition.
