The NASCAR Cup garage has been waiting to get the air clear around uncertainty over Stewart Haas Racing’s future since the start of the season. But majority of the fan base dint expect to see the announcement that came last Tuesday that the team will cease its operations from next-season by selling all four charters.
Tony Stewart and Gene Haas, hasn’t been able to get the best out of the crew they have since the start of the Next-Gen era. They have only won three races, all of which came in 2022 and ended the 2023 season winless. They found themselves in financial struggle as well after they lost top-sponsorship deals following Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola’s retirement.

Recently while talking about the SHR announcement in his podcast, Kevin Harvick highlighted that how his No:4 team has been the backbone of the team in the last 10 seasons. He reckons the success of his and Rodney Childers’ success held the team together, as the other three cars comparatively have been less successful.
I had a great group of people and I think the people around that four car over the last 10 years are really what held that company together. I think that company was held together by the success of the four car, Rodney Childers and that group of people. I think once that backbone of all that went away, I think it started poking some holes in just what happens at the top side of the upper management and everything that goes with running a race team top to bottom.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
Kevin Harvick highlights why SHR-owners approach hasn’t been the best
The 2014 Cup champion while talking further about the topic pointed out that being a team owner in NASCAR is a full-time job, which the SHR owner duo isn’t doing. This lack of an authority figure at the top-management ended up creating issues for the Ford team and eventually played a role in their downfall.
It's a full-time job, seven job, but it's not a knock on owners. Gene and Tony were great to me, but they're hands-off owners and have people in place to do their jobs. I think in today's day and age, you have to have people that are involved with the authority to do what they need to do with the people and the things inside of the company to make it run properly.Kevin Harvick said.
The point made by the future Hall of Famer is absolutely spot on as the lack of involvement from the ownership group has been an issue at SHR for a long-time. If they had solved it the team might have been able to still remain in NASCAR by downsizing their operations.
