The NASCAR community was shocked when Stewart Haas Racing announced that they would cease their operations at the end of the 2024 season. But since that announcement a lot of new decisions has been made. The team is set to become Haas Factory Team with two Xfinity series rides and one Cup series ride.

Former SHR driver Kevin Harvick has recently made some bold comments about the team, with Gene Haas going slow. He questioned the decision from Haas to field two Xfinity cars over going for two Cup cars, as the there is a better financial upside to going with the second option, as the primary tier offers more money.

You’re going to make money, or at least have a chance to make money on your Cup teams. There’s not very many opportunities to make a great business out of having two Xfinity teams.

Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

Further talking about the point, he admitted that he isn’t sure what is actually happening with the team. He pointed out that the whole SHR drama was more of a break up between owners and not a shutdown of the team.

But I mean we went from shutting Stewart Haas Racing down to now we’re Haas Factory Team. So I’m not sure what’s going on, but it sure seems like a breakup, not a shutdown.
Kevin Harvick added.

Kevin Harvick is confused about SHR’s future

While earlier talking about the same, Harvick admitted that he is confused about the situation at SHR. He pointed out that the SHR announcement was more about a restructure of ownership and admitted that having two Xfinity teams over two Cup cars is bit odd.

I’m so confused. I am so confused. I thought Stewart Haas Racing was shutting down. It sure seems like a restructure, to me. And just a restructure of ownership, because it’s very interesting to me that you would keep two Xfinity teams and not keep your two Cup teams.
Kevin Harvick said.

The 2012 Cup champion has some valid points as it seems the ceasing SHR was more about the ownership changing to what it was initially when the team was formed. It would be interesting to see what is the future for SHR in the sport.
