Kevin Harvick claims time has come for Martin Truex Jr. to “end controversy” and make a decision on his future

Since the start of the 2022 season Martin Truex Jr. has been teasing his retirement from the sport. He has extended his contract on one year basis two times since then and his latest contract is coming to an end this season. The 2017 Cup champion hasn’t announced his decision yet despite the season already reaching the half way.
Now 2014 NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick, who retired from the sport last season, discussed the controversy and pointed out that time has come for Martin Truex Jr. make the final decision. He pointed out that Joe Gibbs will soon get involved in it as he can’t afford to have this uncertainty every year with a veteran racer.
I think it’s time for Martin to make a decision. Does he want to race, [or] does he not want to race? And how long is Joe Gibbs gonna sit back and have that controversy of Truex trying to decide am I gonna race again next year? You hear the frustration on TV, on the radio and everything that he’s got going on, so where’s that balance of OK, I’m Joe Gibbs Racing — we just need to end this year-to-year stuff and start to build a stable program.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
If the Truex Jr. decides to end his illustrious career, JGR has to replace him with a driver that could yield them similar result as Ty Gibbs has been giving them since joining the team. Hence, they will be either looking for a young driver/rookie or someone with solid experience in the top tier.

The ex-SHR driver went on to point out that Joe Gibbs is currently putting pressure on Martin Truex Jr. to reveal his decision quick as they don’t want the same delay as in the past. He highlighted the JGR crew has to plan for the future after Truex Jr.
It sounds like they’re putting more pressure on Martin this year to [make that decision] earlier. We gotta know what we’re planning around here and move forward.Kevin Harvick said.
It would be interesting to see how long will the Toyota veteran will take to make the final decision his future. It would be good for all parties involved if the decision is made as soon as possible, rather than having delay like in the past years.
