Carson Hocevar has established himself as one of the most polarizing drivers in NASCAR. The Spire Motorsports star has been riddled in controversy this year, particularly for his beef with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Despite repeated incidents on-track this season, the 22-year-old has continued to enjoy the support of his team. Now, NASCAR veteran Kevin Harvick has revealed the reason why Hocevar’s aggressive racing is still accepted in the field.

The 22-year-old controversy with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. began in Nashville when the two made contact. Things got to such an extent that Stenhouse warned Carson Hocevar over a confrontation. A couple of weeks later when it seemed that the two drivers were about to move on from the incident,

Carson Hocevar made the Hyak Motorsports driver spin out in Mexico. This only angered the 37-year-old who even threatened violence against his rival. Harvick even suggested that Stenhouse should perhaps flex his muscles and hit back at the Spire Motorsports driver in the next race.

Kevin Harvick was impressed with Carson Hocevar’s incredible race in the last round at Pocono. The NASCAR veteran claimed that the 22-year-old’s ability to keep things intact in such a situation was the reason why he was still in the sport. Harvick even pointed out that Hocevar’s car was touching the wall, yet the Spire Motorsports driver managed to continue without getting wrecked. The 49-year-old highlighted that these skills were what decided the future of a driver in NASCAR, even if they do have their aggressive moments.

This is why everybody keeps him around right? This is the ability that Hocevar has and I know that you know the tail just touched the wall right there. But this is why everybody tolerates the rest of it, because he has these unbelievable skills inside that race car to do things like that.

Kevin Harvick said on Happy Hour podcast

While Harvick acknowledged that without the wall, Hocevar might’ve spun out, the move remained impressive. The NASCAR veteran was surprised to see the 22-year-old only lose two spots while he tried to save his car.

You could say that if the wall isn’t there, he spins out. But either way I mean look how long that thing was sideways. And he had that thing back under control and going straight, I think he only lost two spots.

Kevin Harvick declares Carson Hocevar’s off-track antics will ‘haunt him’

Kevin Harvick asserted that Hocevar is a driver who can do anything inside the car. However, off-track situations could get the better of the 22-year-old. Harvick asserted that Carson Hocevar fails to manage controversies, things will continue to haunt him. The NASCAR legend reckoned that this not only affects the driver, but even takes a toll on the entire team, as they face scrutiny continuously.

He is extremely talented and he can do everything that it takes inside of that race car. It’s gonna be the things outside of that race car that if he doesn’t get those things under control, they’ll continue to haunt him. He’s still having to deal with the Stenhouse piece of it, and that was all they asked about in the media session from both of those guys. And Those are the things that just distract the team, just week after week after week after week.

Kevin Harvick explained

Certainly, Carson Hocevar needs to avoid any more controversies, particularly with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. The 22-year-old has demonstrated that he remains a capable driver. Unfortunately, such performances will get overlooked if he gets stuck in a war of words off the track. Fans would hope that Hocevar manages to stay out of unnecessary trouble, and brings some decent results for Spire Motorsports in the coming weeks.
