One of the major goals when 2014 Cup Champion Kevin Harvick retired from full-time racing at the end of 2023, was helping his son Keelan Harvick develop as a future racing star. So, far he has been successful in establishing the youngster as fan favorite prodigy and this week saw him making motorsports history.

The 13-year-old won the iconic Snowflake 125, the prestigious Pro Lade Model race at Pensacola, Florida. He started the race at P15, went onto produce a strong run to win the event that featured the defending big names such as Kaden Honeycutt. The come back from a poor start to the race showed his character and determination.

Kevin Harvick was in the pit-area watching his son succeed in the No:62 car and was cherishing every moment as a proud dad. Talking about the race and his involvement in it, he admitted that he doesn’t micro-manage Keelan’s racing. He declared that his son doesn’t need to worry about his involvement.

I kind of know what’s going on when I watch the race, and there’s enough opinions that I can gather what’s going on. I don’t want to get in the middle of it. I mean, he’s never going to have to deal with me.

Kevin Harvick told Matt Weaver.

Furthermore, he asserted that as Keelan moves up the ranks in his racing, he will reduce his direct involvement during race weeks. This is aimed at letting his son grow with his team while him giving more advise with an outside perspective.

As he moves up the ranks to talk on the radio and talk to the crew chief, and my opinion, you know, I will talk to Michael, but it is what I see. It’s never, I don’t listen to the radio.

It’s really cool. They brought me a really fast car. Not much practice. We didn’t come down here and test. I had school, but we came down here and made it work.

Keelan Harvick said.

Further talking about the point, he highlighted how much he is cherishing the respect he earned by winning the race, without being over aggressive or someone who wrecks rivals. Beating the likes of Isaac Kitzmiller, Luke Baldwin, Luke Yarborough, Jimmy Renfrew Jr, Gabe Brown, Evan Szotko, and Conner Jones was really special.

It’s just big on earning respect from all of the veterans that are in the field. There’s a lot of them that come to that race. Pretty much all of them. It’s just really cool that I get to earn their respect, racing clean, actually passing and not just running over people.

The win also proved that Keelan might have inherited the closer trait that made Kevin Harvick successful. If he can grind out results despite tough starts like his father did, there is great chance that he can make a name for himself in NASCAR.
