Kevin Harvick Asserts Kyle Larson “Doesn’t Have a Chance to Win” the 2025 Indy 500
Kevin Harvick firmly believes that Kyle Larson is set to lose the 2025 Indy 500 due to his starting position of P19 in the main race.

Kyle Larson‘s performance during his practice and qualifying outings for the Indy 500 has been nothing short of a disaster. The Hendrick Motorsports star has very little track time ahead of the main race on 25th May. He could face a massive challenge in the Indy 500 and the momentum from string Cup runs most probably won’t matter. As such, Hall of Famer Kevin Harvick has waged his opinions on the No.17 driver’s winning chances on Sunday.
Kyle Larson debuted in the Indy 500 in the 2024 season as part of his maiden Double Duty weekend. Despite starting in fifth place Larson could only secure a P18 finish owing to a pit-speeding penalty. He was still able to win the Rookie of The Year award. Now the Hendrick Motorsports is set to start the race from way back in P19 for this season’s open wheel event and is out of many racings fans race win favorite list.
Larson crashing out on two different occasions during his testing outing, which further proves that he might not be ready for the main event this year. So, Kevin Harvick didn’t hesitate to dismiss the No.17 driver’s chances. Harvick reckoned that the HMS star couldn’t complete the goal of running over 1100 miles of the Double Duty this year either.
In addition to this, Harvick clearly states that Kyle Larson has no chance to win the Indy 500 this year. Considering the situation that Larson has gone through in his IMS race practices, him winning is highly unlikely. The Hall of Famer guesses that realistically, the No.17 driver could be a victory contender for the Coke 600 and just finish the lead lap in Indy for the sake of completing over 1100 combined miles.
I think the goal is to run the 1,100 miles. I don’t think he has a chance to win at Indy, Think, with the way they qualified and all the things that have happened this year, I think that hope is out of the picture. I think he can come back and be a real contender at the Coke 600 and just being able to finish on the lead lap at Indy and run all 1,000 miles and check that box is probably the most realistic goal for this year.
Kevin Harvick said on his Happy Hour Podcast.
Kevin Harvick claims Kyle Larson’s 2025 season ‘not as fun as 2024’
While Kyle Larson attempted the Double Duty last year as well, he couldn’t complete it as he missed the Coke 600 due to weather delays. Larson is undeterred by the issues faced last year and even the couple of crashes in the Indy 500 testing and is confident of his chances in the upcoming race.

Kevin Harvick second-guesses Larson’s confidence this season and claims that the latter isn’t having as much fun this year as he did previously. Still, Harvick reckons that it would be interesting to witness how the No.17 driver manages to pull off an impressive feat in the Indy 500. The 49-year-old reiterates that the hopes of the Hendrick star winning are seemingly over already, as it would still be interesting to see what he does from this point onwards.
It doesn’t look like he’s having nearly as much fun this year as he did last year, with the couple crashes and everything that’s happening. It will be interesting to see if he moves forward with it after this year after it not being as much fun. … Expectations are high. Going from what he did last year to this year, the expectation is to go there and compete for a win. That was over early.”
Kevin Harvick noted.
Tony Stewart is the only driver in history to attempt and successfully complete the Double Duty back in 2001. Kyle Larson will achieve a great feat if he manages to pull off the same and give a great response to the naysayers. Larson is likely to give it his all in performances at the Indy 500 as he reckoned that it might be his last outing in the format.
