The NASCAR nation received a shocking news during the Olympics break, as Spire Motorsports announced the exit of Corey LaJoie from the team at the end of 2024. He has been the pillar of the Chevy team’s growth and inspired them to invest million into their resources. But they had no choice but to let him go due to not meeting performance expectations.
Now 2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick, whose ex-crew chief Rodney Childers will join the team in 2025, has given his take on who should replace the veteran racer. He admitted that everyone was caught off guard with the announcement and now they seem to have a bigger vision with Childers onboard waiting for a new driver.
Well, there’s not many rides left, and I think that the timing of all that was — I think caught everyone off guard for sure. With the hiring of Rodney Childers going over to Spire, they’ve obviously got a vision in their mind that I guess we’re gonna see play out as you see and hear how many different people that they’ve hired to go to Spire.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
The ex-SHR driver be lives the No:7 seat won’t go to a rookie racer or someone from the lower divisions. He believes that a driver, who currently drives in the Cup Series, will line-up alongside Michael McDowell and Carson Hocevar in 2025.
So, the driver of the 7 car is going to be an interesting one because it appears that it’s going to come from a seat. Some seat, somewhere on the Cup side is probably gonna fill that 7 seat.Kevin Harvick added.
Kevin Harvick reveals Spire made a statement with the announcement
While further talking about the topic, Harvick asserted that with the LaJoie announcement, Spire Motorsports has made a statement that they are willing to spend money for the best resources. Now they have to back up the statement by making some signings.
So, we just have to wait and see how that all shakes out, but I think everybody was caught off guard and Spire has definitely said, ‘Hey, we’re here to win and spend the money to hire the people to put in these cars and work on these cars to figure out what that effort consists of in order to go win races.'Kevin Harvick said.
Justin Haley of Rick Ware Racing seems to be the front runner to land the seat, but they would have spent extra to get his services as RWR has a huge RFK connection to help Haley. It would be interesting to see who would land the seat in 2025.
