The 2025 Daytona 500 marked history, as Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelly Earnhardt’s JR Motorsports made their Cup debut. Reigning Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier led the No:40 Chevy, sponsored by Chris Stapleton‘s Traveller Whiskey, on the return of the Earnhardt brand to the premier division of the sport.

The team failed to top the Qualifying but was able finish as the better side in the Duel to earn a starting spot in the main event and went onto secure a solid P9 finish on their debut, proving JRM has what it takes to be a Cup team. 2014 Cup Champion Kevin Harvick wants this to continue as he urged Dale Earnhardt Jr. to establish a JRM Cup program.

I want to see JR Motorsports in the Cup Series. I think it’s good for our sport. Seeing Dale Jr. and I know Dale pretty well — and seeing his enthusiasm showing up in the garage, walking with that car everywhere — he holds an immense amount of pride for stuff like that and the history and heritage of knowing that it was the first time for his team.

Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

The ex-SHR driver went onto highlight the passion Dale Jr. has to the sport and congratulated him for being the emotional person he is. He also recalled how Junior stayed with his team, till they loaded the trailer to get back to the shop.

I mean, he’s a very sentimental, emotional person that wanted to take all that in. Kudos to him for doing that because sometimes, I’m not the best at doing stuff like that and he was there from the time the garage opened till that car was loaded into the trailer.

Kevin Harvick expects JRM to have enough enthusiasm to make Cup expansion possible

Talking in the same podcast, Harvick admitted that he really wants the Junior and his team on the race track every Sunday owing to the impact he can have on the fans. He expects the debut experience will give JRM enough excitement to expand their operation.

Wound up with a ninth-place finish. Souvenir trailer is gonna go back empty, they sold out everything. But I truly believe that JR Motorsports and Dale Jr. need to be on the racetrack on Sundays, and I hope that gives them enough enthusiasm and excitement to hopefully put something together.

Kevin Harvick said.

The only thing that is stopping JRM from making a Cup debut is the charter price and the lack of them in the market, alongside the recent charter lawsuits. But they team will find some ways to expand the Cup operation and everyone in the racing community is waiting for it.
