The 2024 NASCAR Cup season witnessed Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson attempting the iconic Indy 500-Coke 600 double. But unfortunately, rain delay ruined his dream as he failed to start in the Charlotte Cup race. His attempt to have a solid race at Indy was ruined because of speeding penalty, making the memorial weekend a memory to forget for him.
Now there are unconfirmed reports suggest that Kyle Larson would attempt the double again next-season and the driver admitted at Indy that he really wants to do it. Ex-Cup champion Kevin Harvick shared his verdict on the topic via his podcast and discussed how some people around the sport dislike Larson for being a constant talking point due to his involvement in multiple racing series’.
I think everything that Kyle Larson does in racing, some people get a little annoyed with everybody talking about Kyle Larson, but he races more than anybody on earth, and he’s successful in everything that he does, and I like watching Kyle Larson race, and do things that other people don’t do.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
The ex-SHR driver asserted that the HMS driver racing in different events and categories is great for NASCAR as well as the sport of racing. Hence, he wants to see Larson attempting the iconic Indy 500 in the 2025 season.
I think it’s great for our sport. It’s not only great for our sport, it’s great for racing. I want to see him back at the Indy 500.Kevin Harvick added.
Kevin Harvick urges Kyle Larson to try more IndyCar events
The former racer doesn’t just want Larson to attempt the Indy 500, he reckons the HMS driver should also try racing in other oval IndyCar events. He suggested the HMS driver to skip Cup practice and try racing in some double header weekends in the open wheel championship.
I’d love to see him run a race beforehand. I’d like to see him run one of the ovals, at some point because they do some of those doubleheaders. … Just do it. Skip practice. He doesn’t need practice.Kevin Harvick said.
Its good suggestion made by Harvick, as this would help Larson to have a better Indy 500. But at the same time, it won’t be something the fans and Rick Hendrick wants to see too often as these attempts demands a lot of time and resources from their NASCAR projects.
