The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far has been a huge nightmare for Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman. He is currently sitting P36 in the points table after finishing P40 at Daytona, P23 at Atlanta and P36 at COTA. Last Sunday he couldn’t even complete the race, as he was replaced mid-way by Myatt Snider after getting sick.
2014 Cup Champion Kevin Harvick is clearly disappointed with the wrong direction Alex Bowman and the No:48 team is on in the 2026 season, as he sees the unraveling. The driver whose seat is already under threat owing to him under performing the last two years, hasn’t had a single good week this year, while all three of his teammates are having good days.
I don’t know, I mean you never want to speculate on somebody’s health or what’s happening. But it just feels like the 48 thing is just kind of unraveling right in front of us. Haven’t had a good week yet as far as performance.
Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
The sickness and poor finish at COTA were a big miss for the Bowman. Daytona, Atlanta and COTA have been three tracks where the No:48 team always performed and them not doing it raises a lot of concerns. The ex-SHR driver urged Rick Hnedrick team get everything together before things go south more in 2026.
COTA was definitely one of those places where Alex Bowman hadn’t finished outside of the top 10 ever in the first five years. And really never did anything to go forward on the weekend…They’ve definitely got some things that they’ve got to work through pretty quickly or it’s going to unravel pretty quick
Kevin Harvick added.
Alex Bowman recently opened up about his mental health struggles
Ahead of the COTA race weekend, Alex Bowman shared his thoughts on the importance of mental health awareness. He was talking as part of the Ad Council’s ‘Love, you mind” campaign, where he has signed up alongside Snowboarder Chloe Kim, NWSL’s Macey Hodge, and MLS’s Tim Ream.

I think mental health awareness is super important for anyone across the board. Doesn’t matter if you are a competitive athlete or a regular person.
Alex Bowman said.
Furthermore, he even recalled his personal battle with anxiety and how he survived the challenges. He pointed out that it is important to keep one’s mental health in check before things go south to have a better life.
Anxiety is something I’ve battled with…from my vantage point, as a driver, how I take care of myself can really determine longevity in the sport. You have to take care of your mind through a lot of that—or it gets bad pretty quick.
Alex Bowman added.
This mental toughness will help Alex Bowman in the long-run and will enable him to redeem himself for the upcoming races of the 2026 season. It would be interesting to see how the No:48 team is going to get out the tough situation they have found themselves in.
