2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick retired from full-time racing in 2023 after having wholesome farewell season with Stewart Haas Racing. He is now working at a Broadcaster for Fox Sports and just as he did in the Cup series debut with RCR in 2001, he has established himself as one of the best broadcasters in just a handful of races.

But now the future Hall of Famer is set to make his NASCAR Cup Series return with Hendrick Motorsports, just for a practice session. Kevin Harvick will replace Kyle Larson in the No:5 Chevy Camero ZL1 for the practice session for the North Wilkesboro All-Star race, where the team are the defending winners.

Delena Harvick, the wife of Kevin Harvick, took it to X to share how she learned about the surprise HMS move. She revealed that she was driving when the ex-RCR driver called her and told about the surprising news.

I was driving when Pops called and said, “Can you pull over, I’ve got something to run by you.”
Delena Harvick wrote on X.

Kevin Harvick got a call from Rick Hendrick asking him for a favour and the Hall of Famer is one the elite group of people in NASCAR no one can say no to. For Harvick as well as his fans, it would a fun session as it’s a partnership that no one expected to see happening.

Kyle Larson explains why having another driver won’t affect his race on Sunday

Larson, while talking about skipping practice, pointed out that his team won’t be affected much because they make some changes. He has already booked his place for the main race hence he doesn’t have to be involved in the heat races on Saturday, so the team has enough time to dial the car back to his liking.

I won't be able to, I don't think to get there for the heat race. So we have all day on Saturday to change everything back to me.
Kyle Larson said.

The No:5 Chevy team has the best veteran in Harvick to get them the data needed for Sunday’s race. This would allow Larson to sift all his focus to qualifying well at Indy and put him in a position to win the 500 miles iconic race.
