Two times Cup Series champion Kyle Busch ended his long-stint with Joe Gibbs Racing after the 2022 season to join Richard Childress Racing. He started his new career chapter strong with three wins in the first half of 2023, but since then has been experiencing a winless streak. The No:8 team hasn’t been able to field cars competitive enough.

As the winless run continues, there has been multiple rumors about the veteran finally retiring from the sport. Kyle Busch ahead of the Martinsville race opened up about these rumors. He pointed out that a retirement has been a consideration for him for the last three season and he often thinks about his life after racing.

It was a consideration three years ago, I think daily, you kind of work through those things and thoughts and where you wanna be and what you want to do.

Kyle Busch told Chris Myers of FOX Sports.

Further talking about the point, the Chevy driver added that he is going to work on the team and the car as long as he is enjoying it. He is currently focussed on getting back to victory lane and not on ending his career on the elite level.

When you’re still out here being able to enjoy what you’re doing, working with your team and continuing to try to improve RCR and improve the program and get it to where we all want it and put ourselves in Victory Lane, we’re gonna keep working at it.

Kyle Busch added.

Kyle Busch discusses the reasons for his RCR struggle

In a separate interview, Kyle Busch talked about the reason behind his struggles in the 2025 season. He highlighted that the struggles haven’t been the product of his team not working hard enough, instead it has to do with something else.

He highlighted how everyone in his team works hard for long-hors to field good cars. But the hard work doesn’t seem to align much with the smart work they are doing and it is hurting their productivity on the track.

It’s definitely not due to lack of effort, that’s for sure. Everybody works very hard; I know the long hours and everything that everybody does. The only thing I can really say is, fundamentally, it’s just work smarter, not harder. I think [that] part of it has been better.

Kyle Busch said.

The champion driver wasn’t able to produce the special run he was looking for this week at Martinsville, as he was able to secure just a P12 finish. The team needs find some advantage with the car and inspire their veteran driver to win races. It will be interesting to see how long it would take the teams to pull this off.
