Richard Childress Racing was slowly making a progress this season with Kyle Busch as their lead driver in the last few weeks, after a humbling start to the season, coming to Charlotte. They ended P15 in the rain-shortened race, without any drama like the Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fight from a week ago at North Wilkesboro.
While talking about how the race played out for the No:8 Chevy Camaro ZL1 team till the final caution, Kyle Busch claimed that it was a seesaw night for the team. He admitted that earlier in the race he struggled to handle the car and get through the traffic, and it resulted in them going a lap down but was able to make up for it before the first stage ended.
It was a seesaw night for the zone Chevrolet team in this year’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We were off the mark early in the race battling a loose-handling Chevy and struggling to get through traffic. We ended up one lap down after our first pit stop due to a penalty for an uncontrolled tire. Fortunately, we made that up by the end of the first stage.Kyle Busch told NBC Sports.
Coca-Cola 600 was special night for Richard Childress Racing, as they had a special guest in their pit-box. Ex-US president Donald Trump accompanied by Richard Childress was there watching the race. Trump was more involved with Austin Dillon’s side of the garage over the two times Cup series champions.
Kyle Busch expected a better finish if the full race was run
RCR No:8 team crew chief Randal Burnett made some big calls in the stage one that helped Busch to get back to running inside the top-10. But the car became too tight again and made him lose position. Busch reckons if he was able to finish the race, they would have been in a better spot.
All the guys on the zone team worked hard and improved the balance of the car. We worked our way inside the top-10 for a few laps before the last round of stops but we were just too tight in the center and too loose off to stay there. I think we could have picked up a couple more spots if we had finished the race.Kyle Busch said.
The No:8 team didn’t have the best day or the best result, but it was an okay day considering the form team is on. It would be interesting to see if Busch and team would be able to get back to winning form soon as the regular season has passed the mid-way.
