The NASCAR community is set for a massive change, as from the 2026 season the sport will go back to the original chase format, with a new point system that will reward wins and consistency the same way. The whole racing community is excited about the stock car racing championship becoming legitimate again.
Kyle Busch, who has won two titles in the post-Chase era has recently shared his thoughts on the historic announcement. The veteran racer pointed out that he is hopeful about the future and believes the fans would love the changes. He is looking forward to how the racers going fight for the title under the new system.
Hopefully it’s better and people like it. We’ll see how everybody attacks it and what they do in order to make the most of their opportunity to go race for championships.
Kyle Busch told Peter Stratta of TSJ Sports.
Further talking about the point, he highlighted a major issue with the format’s nature and how it will affect racing in the Next-Gen era. Nowadays drivers are involved more chaotic wrecks, and the young drivers coming up are more aggressive than ever. One or two DNFs is enough to ruin a championship chasers’ dream.
I remember when we had The Chase format. Getting wrecked once or twice, you’re eliminated. You have no chance at a championship. And with wrecks being a whole heck of a lot more these days of people running over people, maybe it will keep it even because everybody’s getting wrecked in the final 10.

Kyle Busch names the replacement for Steve Phelps
Another major development during the off-season was the resignation announcement from NASCAR commissioner Steve Phelps over controversial comments. Busch has always appreciated the expertise and ability of the senior officials. He like many feels it’s going to be tough to find a solid replacement.

I mean, I don’t know the ins and outs of all of what Phelps did. But just through some of the rumblings: His ability to be able to talk amongst all of the key partners, right the OEMs and the league personnel below him, then of course the teams and owners, things like that, TV people radio handling businesses getting media rights things that he did.
Kyle Busch said.
When asked about who he thinks should take over the position, Kyle Busch named Mike Helton, who is currently the Vice Chairman of the sport. He was the president of NASCAR for decades and is one of the most respected officials in the sport.
He (Steve) was very charismatic… I’d put [Mike] Helton back in if it were me.
Kyle Busch added.
NASCAR has a big decision on their hands regarding the next commissioner and it might take the sport some time to make the final call. It would be interesting to see who would take over one the most important roles in stock car racing.
