The NASCAR garage is set for a return to the Superspeedways with the upcoming race weekend at Talladega Motor Speeedway, one of the fastest and most chaotic tracks in the schedule. One of the most significant factors behind success on these tracks is a perfect drafting and two times Cup champion Kyle Busch has shared thoughts how the execute it with perfection.

The Richard Childress Race veteran was asked at Talladega media session, how they use draft to succeed on the track. Kyle Busch admitted that the draft has changed a lot in the recent era, with the push from behind becoming the more important factor than the aero advantage they used to get upfront in the past.

The draft is a big deal and honestly the energy in the draft now is not necessarily coming from ahead of you, it’s more so coming from behind you. Two, three, four, five cars behind you is where that energy really develops, and you get pushed forward from that energy.

Kyle Busch said at Talladega media session (Speedway Media).

Further talking about the point, Busch admitted that it was easy to push your partner on the track to the front and slingshot past him in the open, in the past. But now it isn’t that easy, as the drivers are relying more on what’s happening behind them. With Chevy having the biggest fleet for the race, Busch will have more to worry about on Sunday during team drafts.

So, the draft is different than what it used to be. Years ago, you would suck up to the guy in front of you and slingshot past him and make him move that way. Now, you’re really relying on everything happening behind you and building from behind.

Kyle Busch highlights the importance of communication at Talladega

During the same conversation, Kyle Busch was asked about the importance of good communication with their spotter, to survive the Superspeedway chaos. He admitted that when they are on the track, there is much information they can get watching the in-car camera and the mirrors about what’s happening around them. The spotter makes the difference at this moment.

Communication with your spotter is the ultimate. There’s nothing else that you really use as much as your spotter on speedway racing. You can use your mirrors and look in the camera and look behind you and whatnot. But, trying to figure out a way of being able to understand the energy that’s coming rows back behind you, the only way to get that is from your spotter.

Kyle Busch added.

The veteran is going into the Sunday’s race with the goal of ending his winless streak, on his 40th ever race at the iconic track. He will be hoping to survive the chaos and secure his third win at the 2.66-mile superspeedway on Sunday, to secure a place in the playoffs.
