Kyle Busch who sports the No.18 Toyota Camry competing full-time in the Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing has faced a mid-race black flag due to his team making an improper adjustment on his car. The mistake/neglect cost the 2 times cup series champion his front row position and he was awarded a time penalty.

Now Kyle Busch’s crew chief Ben Beshore has come forth admitting that it was a neglect of his crew while putting the tape in the wrong place.

I figured as soon as we went and Kyle Busch pushed somebody it would fly right off.,” said Ben Bishore on the improper adjustment

Kyle Busch’s crew chief, Ben Bishore seemingly admitted that it was sheer negligence of his team crew when they put the tape on his grille instead of putting it on the brake duct. He said that the crew missed it and he thought it wouldn’t stick that long,” said Ben Bishore.

He also added that he thought it would fly off because the grilles are big fat openings and if he pushed or came in contact with someone it would fly right off.

“I thought it would fall off and it wouldn’t be a problem because the grilles are…wire and big fat openings. I figured as soon as we went and pushed somebody it would fly right off,” concluded Ben Bishore.

NASCAR took time to call the penalty on Kyle Busch

But the tape didn’t fly off as Ben thought and it stayed eventually leading to the team facing a penalty for the violation. The officials decided to black-flag Busch on lap 345 citing the unsanctioned adjustment.

NASCAR called for the penalty 6 laps later on lap 351 because they were reviewing the pit-stop video to make sure he didn’t pick it up from the track. NASCAR didn’t issue an official statement but only did a video review.

Kyle Busch served his penalty on lap 351 falling a lap behind and finally placed 9th as he couldn’t lap the then leader William Byron.
