Since the start of the Next-Gen, one of the major issues NASCAR has faced is the lack of solid race product at the short tracks, which has been the bread and butter of the sports for many years. From design tweaks to option tier, the sanctioning body has made multiple attempts to fix issue, but nothing has yielded the desired products.
Two times Cup series champion Kyle Busch shared his feelings about the short track racing issues ahead of the Homestead Miami race in an interview. He declared that racing hasn’t gotten better and highlighted how the all the changes made regarding aero, or tiers just hasn’t worked out, as the final race products fail to match expectations.

The racing has definitely not gotten better with the Next Gen at short tracks. Why that is? I don’t know. We tried different aero packages, we tried different tires.

Further talking about the point, Busch reveals what he thinks is the reason for the issue. He pointed out that having single source parts, limiting the innovations from the teams, makes everyone figure similar solutions to make cars faster. With the aero making the driver factor less of an advantage in traffic, and cars not having any speed advantage put everyone in a tough spot.
I think it’s just the similarity in all the parts and pieces and everybody being the same. Eventually, everybody is going to figure out how to attack this car and what makes it go fast.

Kyle Busch feels bad for his son owing to his winless run
The Next-Gen era hasn’t been kind to Kyle Busch. He is currently going through a winless streak, that is has lasted almost two years. The lack of wins, when his son and daughter are in the right age to celebrate his runs, like Kyle Larson and his son Owen, makes it tough for him.

He pointed out that he wanted to celebrate wins with his son Brexton on the track and him not having that opportunity making him feel bad. But he admits that that how life its and is looking for ways to get over the misery.
You know, now that he’s a little bit older, he wants to be a part of that, and I’m not winning as much. So, it is tough. It’s more tough on, probably for me, feeling bad for him, that he doesn’t get to enjoy that as much, and I feel bad for me that I don’t get to enjoy in being able to go to Victory Lane as much as I once did. But life is life.

Kyle Busch’s winless run is benefiting his son
At the same time, Busch also sees some positives from his winless run that might benefit his son in the long run. He pointed out that the winless streak will help Brexton to understand that getting in car won’t automatically guarantee racing, as everyone has to work hard to secure wins.

So, he gets to kind of see like, ‘Okay, it’s not just jump in a race car automatically I win,’ right? He gets to see a better picture of that. It’s hard. You do have to work at it. It’s something that this doesn’t come easy for everybody. So, that helps maybe a little bit, but he still does remind me quite often that he wins a lot more than I do.

The comment from Busch shows his positive and productive attitude, which is something his son needs learn to succeed in his career. The teasing from Brexton also shows the youngster has his fathers’ comparative character.
