YouTuber turned racer Cleetus McFarland has been the centre controversy since the start his Truck Series debut at COTA. Many in the racing community urged NASCAR limit approving the driver for more races before he gains more experience in lower division. But the latest announcement from RCR has shocked everyone, including their own Kyle Bsuch.

Richard Childress Racing has given Cleetus McFarland a part-time deal that will see him race in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series for three events. The two times Cup champion was asked about his team’s decision ahead of the Phoenix race and he highlighted the lack of experience as a major issue. He also took a cheeky dig at ex-teammate Denny Hamlin while making the comment.

I mean he just, I don’t know. I don’t know how many races he’s run. Denny Hamlin ran 10,000, right, before he got here. I don’t know if Cleetus has run 10 or not, but there’s definitely a need to having ample experience.

Kyle Busch told the media at Phoenix.

The No:8 Chevy driver, Kyle Busch, while explaining the lack of lower division experience of McFarland, brought attention to his son Brexton Busch, claiming the 10-year has raced more over the years than the YouTuber. This is the major reason why he like the majority of the stock car racing community isn’t a big fan of the announcement.

My son’s probably run more races than he has, and he’s 10 years old. You know what I mean? So I don’t think that sits well with many of us.

I think we can make this work, I think it’s going to be good for both sides. His fanbase is our fanbase, but we need to kind of merge them together, right? I think his people will love us. I think our people will love him. And then, the sport of NASCAR together, we can put something great together.

Ty Dillon said.

RCR plans to take advantage of this fanbase while helping McFarland to grow as a racer and enable him to overcome the inexperience. They are determined to instil him with confidence and make him the best racer he possibly can.

The plan is to grow Cleetus in the sport. We believe with the resources that RCR has that we can take his inexperience but surround him with confidence and people who care and want to push him to get the best out of himself and get to that goal.

Ty Dillon added.

The comment from the veteran racer shows RCR has a long-term plan for the racer and it a mutually beneficial deal. But at the same time, if the racer continues to wreck more as he is now, and ruins his reputation, things can backfire.
