2021 NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Larson came into the playoff race at Homestead Miami, with the hopes maximizing his point finish, if he can’t win the race. But he wasn’t expecting the disappointing result that was awaiting him on Sunday. He was able to secure just a P13 finish owing to an early race incident.

Towards the end of the first stage, Kyle Larson had a flat tire, sending his car to the wall. This resulted in the No:5 suffering some significant damages and losing multiple track positions. The veteran was furious over team radio regarding the wreck and was heard venting about the Nex-Gen car issue yet again killing his race.

These f***ing cars are stupid. How can you get a flat tire  and be done … or you get a flat tire and wear out a little bit of your diffuser and your race is killed. Stupid.

He was able lead just one lap the whole despite starting on P2, as he had to fight the midfield for positions after the crash. Larson ended the day with 24 points to his name, which has dropped him into the elimination list as he is now 7 points off of teammate William Byron, who is P4 in the table behind Christopher Bell at P3, who has a 29 points advantage, with Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick already securing finale spot.

The No. 5 Chevy team did a great job rebounding after the flat tire. … Yeah, we’ve been strong at Martinsville (Speedway) at times, so we’ll see. It’s not my best track, but I’ve been a lot better there since I joined Hendrick Motorsports. We just need to qualify well and give it our best shot.

Though he isn’t in a good spot, Kyle Larson can make it into the next round easily on points, but it will depend on which driver will win the race at Martinsville. So, the No:5 team will not be taking any risks and will be going all out for the win. It will be interesting to see how they will perform in the coming races.
