The NASCAR Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway brought out a different side of 2021 Bill France cup winner Kyle Larson that isn’t seen often. He went on a Ryan Blaney style radio rant, targeting the whole grid, alongside his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott, following some aggressive racing during the restarts.

This invited a lot of criticism from the many race analyst and NASCAR podcasters, as some so no actual justification for Kyle Larson outburst than sheer frustration about himself. Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin on his podcast even claimed that the Larson-Elliott duo deserved to get wrecked for the way the raced.

Ahead of the Watkins Glen race, Kyle Larson talked with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and addressed the situation. He pointed out that he wasn’t actually frustrated at Chase Elliott and his rant was the outcome of disappointment regarding how the race was for him, with the Christopher Bell wreck boiling things over by causing damage to the car.

I honestly wasn’t even that frustrated with Chase at all. Just a number of things were building up over all those cautions we had, and then the 20 got into us and my top blew off there a little bit. It was just a good way for me to vent, get some frustration out and try to focus. Unfortunately, I think the next restart or the one after that, we got some damage that pretty much ended our shot at having a good day.

Kyle Larson said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Further talking about the point, the 32 times Cup race winner highlighted how tough NASCAR racing is and also pointed out how the inconsistency regarding the damages to the Next-Gen car ruins the fun. He is determined to use the frustration as the motivation he needs to get back to winning ways starting from Watkins Glen this Sunday.

NASCAR racing is tough. These cars — you can get into people and sometimes it doesn’t cause damage and sometimes it does. I’ve been on the giving end plenty of times, so just didn’t go well for us at Iowa. But we’re looking forward to Watkins Glen and hopefully can do a good job there.

During the discussion, he was asked to describe his racing style and how it affects his performance. He admitted that he is an aggressive racer, and sometimes racing on the edge puts him in situation where he wrecks himself. This makes him one of the drivers with the most DNF is the sport and highlighting this factor he admitted that he has to tame his aggression.

How do I keep what’s good about me and about that, but also tame it down enough to where I’m not getting DNFs or whatever, but I’m also still winning a lot and contending a lot. I think what makes Kyle Larson, Kyle Larson is that aggressiveness, but yeah, I do crash a lot.

The comments from the Chevy driver shows he understands he has issue with aggressive racing, and he has to work on becoming more controlled while taking risks. The points lost from these retirements cost him valuable positions in the points table, and even the regular season championship.
