Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is one of the biggest talents the motorsports have seen in the modern era, with 2021 Cup championship with a 10 wins season being the golden feather of his impressive career so far. But even one of the most versatile drivers in NASCAR history is afraid to drive in the normal roads.
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports the HMS driver shared his thoughts on how he feels about driving on the regular roads and he admitted that it’s different sensation all together. Most often Kyle Larson feels like going faster than he is on the racetrack, despite his speed being three times less than that in the Next-Gen cars, due to cars always zipping past.
You’re all kind of going within 65 to 75 miles an hour. Some might go ripping by you at 80-85 miles an hour. To me, that sensation sometimes feels faster than the racetrack. Because, on the racetrack, you’re racing at 190 to 195 miles an hour. It’s not like cars are zipping past you or you’re zipping by somebody. So, that’s where the sensation comes from, to me.
Kyle Larson told TMZ Sports.
He argued that its not hard for him to get into a street car drive home straight after a race, but its not easy as well. The major reason behind is the safety and danger aspect, as on the track he feels more secure around professional drivers compared to the normal traffic where a small mistake often leads to serious incidents.
It’s not hard at all to get back into a street car and go drive home after the race. If anything, sometimes it feels faster, scarier, and more dangerous because you don’t know who you’re on the road with.

IndyCar’s Alex Palou hails Kyle Larson’s racing
One of the few drivers in the world that has shown the same level of versatility is IndyCar driver Alex Palou. He races for Arrow McLaren and is the championship leader this season. They were teammates when Kyle Larson attempted the iconic double duty in the 2025 season, which though didn’t go as planned.

The racer that has won six of the nine IndyCar races this season, compared elite versatile drivers in the motorsport’s scene such as Kyle Larson and F1 champion Max Verstappen. He feels the HMS driver is one of the very few in the world that capable of competing for wins in any racing series they’re part of.
I don’t know. I think stuff to compare drivers from different series. Kyle has done a tremendous job, not only in NASCAR and IndyCar. I would say, probably one of the only drivers in the world that can go to different series and different cars and perform at such a good level that he does.
Alex Palou said.
Further talking about his versatile racing experience, Palou admitted that despite him being a superior dirt racing star he can’t match the versatility of a driver like Kyle Larson. The veteran rates the Chevy drivers exploits on different series on a high regard.
I don’t know, but I don’t think I would be at this level in NASCAR or in dirt racing, so that’s probably higher than me… What Kyle is able to do with different cars in different series is pretty impressive.
Alex Palou asserted.
The comments from the IndyCar driver shows how big Kyle Larson is as racer and how over the years he has established himself as the best racer in the American racing scene. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming years.
