The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Gateway saw Kyle Larson ending his 50+ race winless streak with a convincing run, surviving a chaotic race that featured 18 cautions and two red flags. He was able to get to P2 in the points table behind Denny Hamlin after the triumph, making his case for a championship defence strong.

While many in the NASCAR community was concerned about the No:5 Chevy driver’s winless run, he wasn’t. Talking about it to the media, he highlighted how the HMS crew has been building for a long-time to get back to the victory lane but admitted that they are yet a long-way to becoming as dominant as they used to in the past.

I mean, back to what. Back to 2021? Back to 2024? No. We’ve definitely been building to get back to Victory Lane. I don’t know that we’re quite yet to where we can go dominate like we have in the past.

Kyle Larson said after the race.

The impressive win, with the assistance from teammate Alex Bowman who finished P2, gives him as well as the whole HMS garage a lot confidence going into the reminder of the season. The hard work paying off moment was a clear confidence booster for the veteran.

A day like today definitely gives you confidence leading into a track where we know we can go dominate. So yeah, no, it’s just been neat to see all the hard work kind of pay off to a moment like this.

Kyle Larson added, as reported via motorsport.com.

Further talking about the point, he highlighted how the garage was bugging him every week he failed to secure a win and how he never cared much about it. Kyle Larson knew he and the No:5 Chevy crew was capable of getting out of the mess.

Every week, I heard you guys tell the new number. It didn’t seem that large. So no, I think just having trust is what it really boils down to. I never lost trust in our group. Maybe trust and confidence in myself at times, but it’s easy to look in the mirror and kind of doubt yourself. The people around me, I never doubted.

Kyle Lason asserted.

The effort was being put in, and we just weren’t seeing the results. Just kind of took some time this season. I feel like it’s been a really long season. Over the last four, five months, maybe two or three months, we’ve definitely been seeing some things start to be put together.

Jeff Gordon said.

The comments from the former champion shows how much the HMS crew worked hard behind the scene help them get back to winning ways. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
