Hendrick Motorsports star driver Kyle Larson is coming into the 2025 Cup Series playoffs, with three wins in his bag, as a championship favorite. But the regular season wasn’t a smooth sail for the 2021 Bill France Cup winner, as he experienced a slump midway through the season, which can be considered the cause for the No. 5 team not winning the regular season title.

The challenges he faced had made Kyle Larson explain his weak points when asked about them in a recent interview. Short, flatter track has always been a significant obstacle for the veteran racer, and he expects this to continue in the playoffs. Hence, producing solid runs at Gateway and New Hampshire would be things that are of paramount importance for the racer.

Yeah, I think the shorter, flatter tracks. So, seeing Gateway and New Hampshire in the playoffs is not something that I was thrilled about. But I do think we’ve made our package better on that style of track.

Kyle Larson told Peter Stratta.

But some things give the racer and Hendrick Motorsports a lot of hope. This has to do with the impressive performance the HMS trio of Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and William Byron was able to produce in Iowa. This showed the star driver that they can be in these kinds of tracks with the right cars and preparation.

I look at Iowa, we were fast, and William (Byron) won; Chase (Elliott) was fast; Alex (Bowman) was fast. When we went to Richmond, we were all really good again. Alex finished second, and I think I was in sixth. Chase was probably one of the best cars that night. William was good, as well.

Kyle Larson added.

The only issue is that, unlike his teammate, he wasn’t a factor in the Iowa race, revealing they have a lot of room left for improvement. But at the same time, he now has solid notes from his teammates on how to tackle the two challenging tracks which he sees as his weak points, New Hampshire and Gateway.

Kyle Larson insists he is over the Indy performance slump

The failure to produce solid results in the Indy 500 and hours after at the Coke 600 affected Kyle Larson’s confidence. He experienced a massive performance slump in NASCAR as well as on the sprint car scene afterwards.

The veteran driver was able to make a comeback in the last races of the regular season and has gotten momentum back on his side. This has boosted the confidence of both the racer as well as his team.

We took a dip in performance on the Cup side, even my sprint car stuff there for a few weeks was off for a little bit. But I feel like we have turned things around here lately and we got our speed better and we’ve been more consistent again.

Kyle Larson said.

Further talking about the point, he admitted that there were some poor outings and misfortune that came the team’s way in the same time of his redemption this season. But he understands this is part of the Next-Gen racing, which made competition much closer.

We still had a couple of races that had some misfortune along the way as every team pretty much has every few weeks, it seems the Next Gen car.

Kyle Larson added.

The comments from the veteran driver Kyle Larson show he is both confident and concerned about the playoffs like all 16 other drivers. It would be interesting to see how the veteran is going to perform in the upcoming 10 races of the season.
