The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Gateway witnessed a strong run from Kyle Larson, helping him to end the 50+ race winless streak that has been haunting him since his 2025 Indy 500-Coke 600 double. It didn’t come easy, as the Glen event turned out to be the most chaotic race of the year.
It witnessed a season record 18 cautions and two red flags in the final stages saw the race being sent to double overtime. Talking about the result that send him to P2 in the points table, just nine points behind leader Denny Hamlin, he admitted that he was feeling good about the day from the start despite all the chaos.
I had a good feeling. I mean, you never know. I felt like this place is so weird. Obviously with the brake rotor failure, strategy, all that.
Kyle Larson said after the win.
The team standing by him throughout the tough moments and giving him a car fast enough to survive the chaos, helping him win the race, played a key role behind the success. Kyle Larson also thanked the No:5 team fans for cheering for him amidst the nightmarish winless streak.
Just proud of my team for working so hard, being so patient through all the tough times, the winless streak, all that. Thanks to the fans, my fans, for also being patient with us, letting us get it figured out.
Kyle Larson added, as reported via motorsport.com.
Another key figure that deserves the credit for the success is the No:48 Chevy driver Alex Bowman. He gave him the right push at the end and decided to race respectfully, when no one would’ve blamed him for being a little aggressive to end his own massive winless streak. Larson also dedicated the win to Bowman’s dog, which died ahead of the weekend.
How about Hendrick Motorsports. Alex Bowman, can’t ask for a better teammate than him. Gave me the pushes I needed to get clear. Want to dedicate this win to him, and his dog just passed away a couple days ago.
Kyle Larson asserted.
Ryan Blaney’s misfortune helped Kyle Larson
Luck also played a key role behind the success of the No:5 team as some of his rivals were caught up into the chaos. Team Penske Racing’s Ryan Blaney wrecked himself after break rooter failed while running P6 in the race.

Talking about it post-race, the veteran admitted that that it’s a shame that his race ended that was after having strong P4 finished in the first two stages. He would’ve in Larson’s places at least in terms of points earned if not for the incident.
It’s a shame. I thought we did a great job today running up towards the front and doing really good in the stages and was looking forward to seeing how that last run played out.
Ryan Blaney said.
The comments from the racer are on point, shows how bad luck can ruin the championship momentum of a racer with just one race in the Next-Gen era. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
