Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson and Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch came to the Enjoy Illinois 300 at Gateway with the hopes of redemption. Larson wanted get over the playoff waiver drama while Busch was seeking to end his disheartening winless streak. But both end up colliding with each and ruining their races.
Towards the end of stage two Kyle Larson found himself in a dual with RCR’s Kyle Busch. While making an aggressive move to overtake the No:8 Chevy on the corner, the No:5 Chevy slid up the track and made contact. This resulted in both the cars spinning and Busch hitting the wall, causing serious damages to his car.

"Yeah, he fucking crowded you down like a total idiot."
Larson: "I've got a flat." (But then says he doesn't)
The incident cost the RCR driver the race as he was forced DNF because of the damages. Larson, the 2021 Cup champion, on the other hand was able to recover, meet the minimum speed requirement and later finish the race at P10.
Kyle Larson admits the waiver drama is confusing
At Gateway Larson talked about the delay over his waver for missing the Coke 600 because of the rain. He doesn’t understand why so much delay and admits the situation is confusing. Larson even questioned that if NASCAR needs to re-write rules to give him a waiver.

The waiver thing doesn’t make any sense as it stands right now. … I’m sure it’s confusing. I think NASCAR’s probably trying to figure out what to do. If I get a waiver, do they have to rewrite the rules?Kyle Larson said.
The drama over the waiver is going to continue for at least this week as well. There is now question about Larson deserving a waiver, the debate is over whether NASCAR would create an unwanted precedent by giving him one.
