The 2024 Memorial weekend witnessed Hendrick Motorsports Kyle Larson attempting the iconic Double. He raced in the Indy 500 with Arrow McLaren and attempted to race at in the Coca Cola 600 with HMS, though that pan didn’t go as planned. Larson couldn’t start in the race at Charlotte due to the rain delay ay Indy and NASCAR calling an end to the race at CMS.
Kyle Larson wasn’t able to secure the best result as well at Indy before making his way to Charlotte. His debut attempted was only able to secure him a P18 finish. But despite the set of disappointing results, the No:5 Chevy crew chief Cliff Daniels in a podcast interview with Kevin Harvick asserted that the attempt was a win.
Yes, the result wasn’t what we all wanted, but in my opinion, I still think it was a win and here’s why. Globally it was a win. It was a great day for motorsports, brought a lot of attention to IndyCar, brought a lot of attention to NASCAR, it really showcased what somebody like Kyle Larson could do and is a big part of our sport as we know.Cliff Daniels said via Happy Hour podcast.
Alongside the attention aspect, Daniels also highlighted that Kyle Larson’s race showed how tough and competitive is the race at Indy. One slight mistake at the pit-stop cost Larson a top-five finishes at Indy, which proves in order to win the crown jewel race one has to produce a perfect performance.
Cliff Daniles appreciates the performance from Justin Allgaier with the No:5 team
While Larson was at Indy, Justin Allgaier was tasked with driving the No:5 Chevy till the 2021 Cup champion returns to Charlotte. He had a fine run at the track and the HMS team was impressed with the courage he has showed.
Then at the same time, how can you consider it a win that he didn’t get to race the five call and all these things would be reasonable for somebody to ask me? Well, the reason it’s a win is the five team was prepared, we have a great relationship with Justin Allgaier. He showed a lot of courage to show up to get in our car.Kyle Larson said.
It seems the crew chief was really impressed with his team and drivers, along with their impressive showing. He might be disappointed with the race result at Indy and the fact that Larson wasn’t able to race at CMS. Larson has got the waiver to continue fighting for the title and Daniels will doing everything he can to make it a possibility.
