Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin secured his 57th career win last Sunday at Michigan. He became the racer with most wins in JGR history and became only the 10th racer to win after 700th career start. Now with the veteran closing in on the 60-win mark, ex-racer Kyle Petty has made a bold prediction.
Kyle Petty asserted that the JGR No:11 Toyota driver will be the last to secure 60 career wins and doesn’t expect another driver to follow the path. That means he is overlooking three times champion Joey Logano and HMS’s dominant force Kyle Larson that won 10 races in 2021 alone. He only sees them coming close the magical number but not cross it.
Denny Hamlin’s going to get to 60 Cup wins. Don’t think we’re going to see another driver do it. I know everyone wants to talk Joey Logano. I know everybody wants to Kyle Larson, and there may be somebody that comes along years from now that gets close.
Kyle Petty said via NASCAR’s YouTube channel.
Further talking about the topic, Petty gives arguments in favour of him overlooking the Larson-Logano duo. He asserted that 25-year-old Joey Logano is too old to win 23 more races before retirement. It will take more than a decade to score than moany wins, considering his average wins a season, and its almost impossible for someone to remain competitive in the late 30s and 40s.
Joey Logano fans are going to hate me, and Kyle Larson fans are going to hate me. But I’m going to say this, Joey Logano is 35 and has 37 wins. He has to win the same amount of races in the next nine years that he won in the previous nine years. That’s 18 years producing at the highest level. That is almost impossible to maintain that for that long a period of time.
Kyle Petty asserted.
32-year-old Kyle Larson, had got a chance, but he has previously admitted that his racing career in NASCAR won’t be as long as many of previous legends of the sports. So, he has to produce 28 wins in a short span, a tough task. But being a Hendrick Motorsports driver gives him a big advantage, compared to Logano. But his HMS teaamtes are capable of stealing some of those race wins, making it tough for him.
I know Kyle Larson is 32 and has won 32 races. And yes, he’s with Hendrick. That’s on his side, I’ll give him that. When we look at [the organizations with four-car teams], they steal wins from each other. It’s hard for an individual driver to put up those numbers.
Kyle Petty added.
Kyle Petty brands Denny Hamlin as one of the Cup series grates
Denny Hamlin has been able to remain on off the best racers in the history of the sport, regardless of his doesn’t win a championship. Kyle Petty believes there is no chance the veteran is going to miss out on a Hall of Fame entry and mark his spot as the last guy to 60, leaving a unmatched legacy.

Denny Hamlin continues to get it done…Denny Hamlin is one of the greatest drivers to ever step foot in a Cup car. I don’t care whether he wins a Championship. I don’t care what he does for the rest of his career. He’s going to be a Hall of Famer; he’s going to go down in history and he may be — I say he is — the last guy to 60.
Kyle Petty said.
The comment from the ex-rival shows how significant and influential is Denny Hamlin’s career, regardless of the absence of the Bill France Cup. It would be interesting to see if the prediction from Petty will come true and how it’s going redefine the legacy of the veteran.
