Joe Gibbs Racing has been having impressive 2024 Cup campaign with Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell leading the way for them. The duo has combined won five races so far this season and has been consistent contenders for race wins in most races this year. They were contenders for the win last week at Gateway as well.
Unfortunately, their charge ended in just top-10 finishes. Christopher Bell had one of the best cars of the field last Sunday and were close to securing a victory before a motor issue ruined his race. He was able to salvage a P7 finish only because his veteran teammate Martin Truex Jr. pushed him on the final straightway.
While talking about this impressive performance from Bell till the Motor issue, ex-NASCAR driver Kyle Petty pointed out that the TRD driver was the class of the field on Sunday. He reckons the No:20 team carries the speed they had at Coke 600 to St. Louis and added that the Toyota drivers’ loss due to mechanical issue teaches fans has to watch the race till the end to enjoy the uncertainty.
We saw Christopher Bell be the class of the field. Who says there’s no such thing as momentum? Coming off of Charlotte, he rolls into St. Louis – same speed. He’s got it, he’s running up front, he’s leading laps, he’s getting it done. But at the end of the race, he’s nowhere to be seen [with] mechanical issues. That’s why you have to watch a race till the very end and this race is the perfect example.Kyle Petty said via NASCAR’s YouTube channel.
Kyle Petty praises Austin Cindric for winning the race
The eight times Cup race winner praised Enjoy Illinois 300 winner Austin Cindric for the impressive run he had had and how he put himself in a position to win. He claimed that no one would remember he got the win because Blaney ran out of fuel.
Austin Cindric wins the race. We’ve seen this happen so many times. Gotta put yourself in position. When that first car has an issue, you take advantage of it. It’s a win. Nobody remembers who runs out of gas, nobody remembers who runs second. They remember Austin Cindric, race winner.Kyle Petty said.
The win is huge for Cindric who was almost in a path that had put his Cup career on jeopardy. He now has a win that would give positive momentum not just to his future, but for Team Penske as well, since the team has been struggling to perform this season.
