Joey Logano and Team Penske have had a decent outing in the 2025 season. Logano has already clinched his spot in the playoffs and is looking ahead to the round of 16 after the upcoming Darlington race. The reigning world champion might not be the favorite to win the Cup Series title this year as his performance does not seem up to the mark. As such, ex-NASCAR driver Kyle Petty makes a concerning statement on the #22 driver’s playoff chances this season.
Joey Logano has lost a lot of momentum since the 2024 season when he won the Cup Series championship. This year, Logano has only managed to acheive a single win with 2 top-five finishes and six top-ten finishes throughout the year. With the regular season nearing its completion, these results are extremely disappointing compared to the previous year for the #22 driver.
As such, Kyle Petty raises concern over Joey Logano and his lost speed in the 2025 season. Petty reckoned that the championship contention might not be that easy for the 35-year-old. Speaking on Team Penske and its’ drivers’ performances this year, the ex-NASCAR driver asserted that Ryan Blaney possessed great speed in his car.
However, Kyle Petty wasn’t too sure of Joey Logano and his speed in the 2025 season. Petty insisted that he did not see good enough speed from Logano. As such, the 65-year-old noted that this was something that concerned him about the #22 car.
We know that the #12 car, Ryan Blaney, has speed. It has speed week in and week out. I’ve just not seen speed from Joey. That is the one thing that concerns me about the #22 car.

Kyle Petty remarked that Austin Cindric had been inconsistent in terms of performance this season as well. Still, Joey Logano’s speed remained the biggest point of concern for Petty as he was not up to the mark this year.
The 65-year-old reckoned that the #22 crew had speed good enough to fight around the 28th position finish. The 35-year-old was unable to fight enough to get a race win even if he was fighting at the forefront and had the speed in him.
And the inconsistency of (Austin) Cindric when you look at him, but when you look at the #22 car of Joey Logano, they’ve just not. They’ve been 28th, 29th-place cars. When they’ve been in competition and able to run up front, they’ve not had enough to get the W.

Kyle Petty claims Joey Logano’s potential ‘doesn’t feel like it has’ in the past
Joey Logano is unable to tap into his potential and get the best results this season. The 35-year-old has struggled to even finish in the top-10, let alone fight for a race win. Hence, after finishing the entire regular season with just one win, Kyle Petty declared that Logano did not hit his full potential this year, like he did in the past.

Kyle Petty reckoned that the Team Penske had just enough speed to potentially come in second or finish in the top in the least. Still, Joey Logano was unable to make winning races a habit and finally had a dissapointing end to the season. As such, Petty emphaszied that Logano’s performance did not feel like it did in the past year when he won his coveted Cup Series championship.
They’ve had enough to finish second, enough to finish in the top five, but not enough to get it. So, it doesn’t feel that way this year like it, like maybe it has in the past.
Kyle Petty noted.
The 2025 season still has one race left in the Cup Series championship. So far, Joey Logano isn’t the odds-on favorite to win the title this year. Still, if Logano continues to build momentum and make no errors on track, he can quickly turnaround the championship chances. Now, time will tell if the 35-year-old manages to win his fourth Cup Series title in NASCAR.
