The 2024 NASCAR Cup season came to a close with the upset championship triumph of Team Penske Racing’s Joey Logano. The Ford driver won his third championship, holding off the charge from Ryan Blaney and William Byron, on the final restart. But not everyone in the racing community is happy with the victory though.
A huge portion of the community is branding the title win of Joey Logano as illegitimate or overlooking it by giving it the luck tag. The major reason behind the criticism is the fact that the No:22 team had the worst stats of any champion before in a season. But ex-racer Kyle Petty has come on Logano’s defense, calling out the double standard of American sports fans.
Now, this is something I don’t understand, I don’t understand why, as I see on Twitter and X, whatever you call it now, why so many people are complaining and saying he doesn’t deserve it. Listen, we celebrate a 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament, it’s a Cinderella story, it’s the greatest story in the world!
Kyle Petty said via NASCAR.com.
He used the NCAA championship examples and how the people will back the lowest seeded guy to win and as soon as he wins, starts discrediting him claiming he doesn’t belong in there. Petty seems adamant that Logano deserved the title, as he played by the same rules as everyone else did.
It’s America, people! They make it to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament. We take a guy, that you guys, or the fans perceive, doesn’t belong there and he wins the championship and we say, ‘He doesn’t deserve it, he doesn’t deserve it.

NASCAR insider hails Joey Logano’s championship win
Senior NASCAR Journalist Jordan Bianchi talked about Logano’s championship win and asserted that the racer deserves all the credit he deserves for the title win. He hailed how the team peaked in the right time being tough and how the find the way to win despite not having the best cars.

We need to give Logano all the credit in the world. He and crew chief Paul Wolfe know how to rise to the occasion. I will say this until I am blue in the face, this is a system that requires teams to do tough — it puts them in tough situations, and you have to fight your way out of it sometimes. Even when you’re not your best, you’ve got to find a way. This is what they did.
Jordan Bianchi said.
The comment from the Journalist’s comes to one point, Joey Logano deserves the championship because he produced slid performance when it mattered the most, while other failed to do so. As long as the playoff system doesn’t change, everyone gets the opportunity to take advantage of it, and Logano did exactly that.
