2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott has everything to be one of the most successful racers in the sports history. A dominant team in Hendrick Motorsports, massive fanbase, big sponsors and a solid crew. But he hasn’t been winning in Cup events as he should and race fans like ex-racer Kyle Petty is disappointed.
In the latest episode of his racer analysis for NASCAR on YouTube, Kyle Petty made some bold statement about the Georgia born racer who has won just six races in the Next-Gen era with five of them coming in 2022, when Chase Elliott won the regular season championship. Since then, other than some good streak of consistent top 10s, he hasn’t shown up.
In the same time his teammate Kyle Larson has won 16 races, and William Byron has won 12 races, making him only the third best drivers of his team, with no dominant track or streak to show for. This makes ex-Cup Series drivers Kyle Petty feels like the veteran racers isn’t stepping up enough. This drop in performance is also affecting his fame, as Larson is becoming more popular.
If we say internal competition, Larson has won three. Byron has won one, dominated Darlington, and was strong at Nashville. Is Chase stepping up?
Kyle Petty asked via NASCAR’s YouTube channel.
The legendary racer highlighted that Chase Elliott has one race since 2023, to the disappointment of his massive fanbase and the most popular driver in the sport having such limited wins is not good for the sport in the long run. He is both disappointed and shocked by the fact that the most popular drivers of the sport isn’t even the best in his team.
Since 2023, Chase Elliott has won only one race. One race, people. I know you’ve got all the t-shirts, I know you’ve got all the hats, I know he’s Mr. Most Popular. But how can our most popular driver not win races and not even be the best driver in the team he drives for?
Kyle Petty added.
Kyle Petty questions if Chase Elliott performance good enough
Farther talking about the point, Kyle Petty shared his more thoughts on the situation. He pointed out that Chase Elliott isn’t performing good enough and isn’t matching the expectations of his fans, his team as well as the sponsor that is investing in him.

Is that good enough? Is that good enough for what the fans’ expectations are? Is that good enough for the Hendrick organization? Is that good enough for the sponsors? If it is, more power to you.
Kyle Petty said.
He asserted that the sport needs its drivers needs to be rewarded for securing race wins and championship, someone that delivers when it’s demanded of him. Hence the experienced racer needs to step up, and the racing community shouldn’t be satisfied with the No:9 Chevy underdelivering.
But in a sport where we reward wins and we reward championships, we need somebody to step up. Chase has got to step up. And if we are complacent and we are satisfied with as good as it gets, so be it. I am not.
Kyle Petty added.
The comments from Kyle Petty might hurt some of the loyal Chase Elliott fans, but some of his arguments are valid and the star drivers needs to be more productive. It would be interesting to see if the Chevy driver can bounce back soon and silence the doubters.
