There are a few team owners that have legacy in NASCAR that comes close to Richard Childress, the Hall of Famer who owns Richard Childress Racing. Though his team have struggled to deliver recently, they are still among the biggest brands the sports have ever seen. But the current NASCAR leadership doesn’t seem to understand this greatness.

Chats between the NASCAR seniors’ officials Steve McDonells, Steve Phelps and Ben Kennedy has been exposed to the public, as the charter lawsuit nears its trial. Recently many concerning information have come out from the texts causing controversy and the most recent drama is about HOF Richard Childress.

Steve Phelps branded the veteran team owner as an impediment to the growth of the sport, as he sees the ex-racer as an idiot who should sell his charters if he doesn’t like the direction NASCAR is on.

In a sperate text during the same interaction, Richard Childress was branded a stupid redneck. Phelps even hinted at using retaliatory measures at legendary figures team the, with the primary goal of silencing him. This comment opens a lot of fled gates, considering RCR has been one of the handful team that have got the most severe penalties of the Next-Gen era.

Childress needs to be taken out back and flogged. He’s a stupid redneck who owes his entire fortune to NASCAR.

In the same conversation, Phelps also called Childress a dinosaur and a clown, who should sign the charter extension and sell his stakes.  He seems to believes that the veteran owes his everything to the NASCAR and should be grateful for it.

If he’s that angry (and apparently he is), sign your charter extension and sell. He’s not smart, is a dinosaur, and a malcontent. He’s worth a couple hundred million dollars – every dollar associated with NASCAR in some fashion. Total ass-clown.

Kenny Wallace slams NASCAR after Richard Childress chat leaks

Former racer Kenny Wallace, who has always been outspoken over many issues, was enraged with the comments. In a video shared on X, as part of the daily Coffee with Kenny segment, the racer pointed out that it’s really concerning the leadership is calling one of the biggest team owners of the sport a stupid redneck.

Steve Phelps from NASCAR, he’s not the president right now, but I can’t even believe I’m saying this. He said Richard Childress, one of our biggest car owners in NASCAR, needs to be taken out back and flogged because he’s a dumbass redneck. Should I repeat that?

It’s quiet embarrassing that NASCAR officials are not respecting one their former racer, who has won seven championships, 118 Cup races, Xfinity championships and gave the sport its superstar racers such as Dale Earnhardt and Kevin Harvick. An apology from NASCAR won’t be enough to end the PR nightmare the leaked chats have revealed.
