The 2024 season would be the final full-time year in NASCAR for the 2017 Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. as he is set to retire at the end of the season. Unfortunately, his farewell season hasn’t gone the way he dreamt it would, as he is yet to win a race this season despite often having the best cars. Lady luck wasn’t on the side of the veteran yet again as he had race ruining wreck at Brickyard 400.

Martin Truex Jr. came into Indianapolis Motor Speedway for most probably his last Cup race at the track with the hopes of winning. But he was in for a disappointment as he was wrecked after making contact with Kyle Larson on lap 105 of the race. But soon after the incident, the No:19 driver slammed Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain for shoving him.

[No.] 1 car, just shoved me out of the way, as usual.
Martin Truex Jr. said team radio.

The trio was fighting among each other at the time and though the replay, didn’t show any contact being made between the No:19 Toyota and No:1 Chevy, Truex Jr. might be pointing at an incident that happened earlier in the straightway or he might have mistaken Larson for Chastain. The wreck was clearly because of the Larson’ contact.

Josh Berry’s race was ruined on the same lap on a separate incident

While Martin Truex Jr. and the other two cars involved in the incident was able to get out of the situation without much damages, Josh Berry wasn’t that lucky on the same lap. He was spun few cars behind Martin Truex Jr. and suffered significant damages to the car.

He was forced to retire from the race because of the damages done to the No:4 Ford and was credited with a P35 finish, which is going to negatively affect him in the rookie of the year fight with Carson Hocevar.

It looked like the 19 got spun out and we were all just stacking and I think I got clipped from behind and turned into the wall. It is an unfortunate end. It has been a tough weekend.
Josh Berry said about the incident.

Luck didn’t do much favour to Martin Truex Jr. later in the race as he was knocked back and had to finish the race in an underwhelming P27. It won’t affect the veterans’ playoff chances though as he has enough points to make it to the last 15. But if he can’t win races soon, the No:19 team won’t make it far in the playoffs.
