The 2025 NASCAR season was expected to be a solid year for the Truex family, with the 2017 Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. retiring from full-time racing and spending more time with his family. But their year has started with a trough situation. Veteran NASCAR racer Martin Truex Sr. has passed away at the age of 66.

The former racer is the father of Martin Truex Jr. and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Xfinity Series racer Ryan Truex. He played significant role in the brothers becoming serial winners and fan favorite in NASCAR. Truex Sr.’s racing career, though wasn’t as successful or flashy as many stock car racers, was enough to inspire the brothers.

The news of Truex Sr. passing away was announced by Truex family in a small but significant statement. They are devastated by the loss of the racer who has 135 starts on the old Busch North circuit. They see him as a hero and a great man. The family thanked everyone for the prayers and thoughts.

He was a great racer himself… Definitely the apple didn’t fall far from the tree, and Martin Sr. did a great job in bringing Martin Jr. into the ranks.

Mike Olsen said last September.

Martin Truex Jr. is going to have the best opportunity to honor his dad. He is set to race in the 2025 Daytona 500 with TRICON Garage. He will be driving the No:56 car, which was once used by Senior and winning the event in it will mean a lot for the Truex family.
