Martin Truex Jr. sends warning to fellow drivers; says he could violate his personal code since it is difficult to ‘race’ clean
Martin Truex Jr. is perceived as one of the cleanest drivers since he has joined the sport with a full time ride in 2006. But we can’t say that he can’t lose his head in the time of an on track altercation. That can be substantiated with a recent incident which happened in 2021.
This incident involved his team-mate Denny Hamlin. Truex Jr. was in complete control of the race first eventually losing to William Bryon and blamed Hamlin for blocking his path and gifting that victory to Bryon.
His anger was out of control when he said on the radio, “What the f***, Denny! What the f*** kind of move was that?”
“Yeah, nice teammate,” Truex’s crew chief James Small replied. Spotter Drew Herring was a little more direct in his language.
“It’s OK. Just note it,” Herring said. “We’ll know how we need to race him now.”
This situation makes the upcoming race at LA Coliseum intriguing as it will be very interesting to see with what intensity all the drivers including Truex Jr. approach the race and the amount of aggression they bring to this exhibition race.
Truex Jr. was in no nonsense mood and he definitely didn’t hold back
Truex Jr. didn’t hold back at all. He added, “For me, obviously, the Coliseum, if it’s going to happen, that’s going to be the place that’s going to make it more difficult to race clean, and drive clean, and do those things.”
“He admitted conflict will likely be a byproduct of the short-track racing and each driver will have to calculate just how important it is to win versus creating enemies.”
“That’s the risk you take every week with the decisions you make,” he said. “It’s a long year, and you definitely don’t want to start off the year in an exhibition race with a bunch of people mad at you,” as reported by sportscasting.
This could be a very interesting race for two reasons. Firstly and more importantly because of the thrilling action we are in for and secondly, the conflict that might have been stored for us. It’s a comparatively smaller track than the other. We’ll have to see how Truex Jr. approaches it with the incident that has just happened. All we can do is wait and watch.
