Alex Bowman has had one of the most unique journeys in the NASCAR cup series. The  No:48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver is often ridiculed and criticized by the racing community for how he earned his Cup wins. 4 of the seven race wins Bowman has scored saw him outracing the leader in the race’s final moments for the win.

Bowman has been facing backlash over his actions when he should have gotten praise for his patience and tenacity. The No:48’s sole win of 2022, which came in Las Vegas, was criticized similarly. His rival and the then JGR driver Kyle Busch ranted at Bowman after losing the race. He said, “The same f****** guy who backs into every f****** win that he ever f****** gets, backs into another f****** win. Bulls***!”. The duo later reconciled.

Bowman is frustrated with the notion that he didn’t deserve his win and points out that most of his critics are hypocrites. He gave the example of Kevin Harvick, admired for closing in on the leader in the final ammeters for the win.

My career has been interesting, right? We walked right into the win at Pocono with Kyle (Larson) blowing that tire. Obviously, we’ve been able to capitalize on some really late-race situations. But you know, when Kevin Harvick would do it, they called him “The Closer,” and it was so cool. When I do it, it’s, “Oh, you back into wins,” Alex Bowman said.

It’s interesting that’s kind of stuck. I feel like anytime we’ve won a race, there’s been talk of, “Well, he didn’t really deserve it.” But those trophies are still at my house. They’re still Cup wins. They don’t have an asterisk next to them anywhere. So they still mean a lot to me,” Alex Bowman added.

Alex Bowman lacks the ability to move on from things

Moving on from negative instances of the past is one of the most important traits to have in one’s life to make it a success. In NASCAR, drivers must clear their minds of any doubt and issues before the next race week. Bowman feels that he lacks that ability as he will still be bugged with the poor race from the week before.

The ability to get over things really quickly. That is a thing I wish I possessed better. I’ll have a bad (race) and be mad about it all week or bummed about it all week. I don’t let go of it quickly. I wish I could just switch to the next week really quickly,” said Alex Bowman.
