The 2023 season has been a story of two tales of Hendrick Motor Sports in the Cup series. On the one hand, Kyle Larson and William Byron dominated the season, winning 10 races combined and finishing the season P2 and P3 in the championship[ respectively. On the other side of the race shop, Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott were having the worst seasons of their careers.

Bowman and Elliott missed out on the playoff after being sidelined by injuries. Elliott missed out on six races due to a broken tibia while Bowman missed five events due to a broken back. Bowman’s accident was caused by a crash during his debut race in Kyle Larson’s High Limit Racing sprint car series.

Going into the 2024 season the primary target of Bowman will be to get back to winning ways and get the consistency he had at the start of the season back. He believes he is in the right shape in terms of fitness, better than he has ever been, going into the championship next season. Bowman is eager to get back to racing with the promising changes that have been made.

I’m looking forward to 24, there’s a couple of changes that I think are going to be really good. I’m feeling better I think having a couple of weeks not so compressed in the race cars has been good for me. From a fitness aspect, I’m probably in the best shape I’ve ever been in right now. Things are good, training really hard.

Alex Bowman wants to keep his Daytona record start streak alive

Bowman and the NASCAR Cup series season opener have a special relationship. He has an impressive qualifying record at the track, as he has an average starting position of 1.5 in the last six seasons. He hasn’t started worse than P2 at the track since 2018.

When asked about this streak, Bowman pointed out that the record is something his team owner Rick Hendrick and sponsor Ally value. Remaining humble he pointed out that he has been able to be consistent there because of the car, not him.

Man, I don’t know. I know that’s really important to Mr. Hendrick. It’s cool for the partners. For me, it’s like, it’s an interesting thing for me because I don’t have anything to do with it, right? … It’s all the race car, and I love having – the record’s cool and everything and I would love to do it again, but I don’t know. We’ll see when we get there.

While he has the best start, the same doesn’t reflect on Bowman’s final results. He has an average finish of P19 at the Florida track and going into the 2024 season his goal will be to have a solid qualifying and a good race.
