“Every race matters,” Alex Bowman wants to move on from Chicago FRUSTRATION and execute to perfection at Atlanta
It’s been over a year since Alex Bowman scored a win in the Cup series.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman is going into the Atlanta Superspeedway race with a lot of weight on his shoulders. He is in desperate need of a win to secure the playoff. While he theoretically still makes it in points, securing the victory will be his real game-changer in the Chase. He needs to regain the momentum for the remaining races at Georgia.
Bowman was finished at a disappointing P37 at the Chicago Street Race in Chevy that should have at least made it to the Top 10. He hasn’t secured a Top 10 finish since his P6 at Richmond on the seventh race weekend. He missed three out of 11 races since then due to injury, and his best finish so far was a P11 at Martinsville before the injury.
Going into the Atlanta weekend, his primary objective is to improve the P14 he scored on the track in March. He pointed out that the penalty and injury spoiled the best start to the season he had and is in a situation where every race matters. He and his team are now maximizing points on every outing and executing well in the races.
“Obviously, we aren’t where we want to be in the points standings. We had a really good start to the season and were super consistent, and then we had our penalty, and then I was out for three races. Heading into the back half of the season, every race matters,” Bowman said.
“Blake (Harris) and I are really focused on the details and trying to maximize on our days. Chicago (Street Course) didn’t go our way, which was frustrating because I thought we had a car capable of getting a top-10 finish. We just have to go execute from here on out, and it starts this weekend in Atlanta,” Bowman added.
Alex Bowman’s teammate Chase Elliott wants to make his Atlanta outing count

The 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott is in a more dire situation than Alex Bowman going into his home race in Atlanta. He has missed seven races this season due to injury and one race suspension. Despite showing supreme consistency, he has a very limited chance of making it into the last 16.
Elliott is determined to make the outing count at the short-superspeedway night race. He also wants to make up for missing the March race at the tack due to his injured tibia. He added that he is excited to race in front of his home fan base.
“I missed Atlanta the first time this year, but hopefully we can go back and have a good run again like we did last year. I know a lot of the people around home are super excited about it being a night race, and getting under the lights down there I think is a really big deal. So I’m looking forward to that,” Chase Elliott said.
