Stewart Haas Racing driver Aric Almirola has said he is going to Michigan International Speedway with a great attitude, as his wife’s family is from the state. The Ford driver has been going through a streak of sub-par results in the next-Gen car era. He hasn’t won a race in two years and will probably miss out on the playoff for a second straight year this season.

This Sunday’s race in Michigan and the regular season finale at Daytona are his best shot at securing playoffs. In his own words, MIS has been a weird track for the No:10 driver; he has won a Truck Series race there but failed to replicate in the top two divisions. He has started 19 races at the track in the Cup series but has scored just two top 10s and led 13 laps there.

While talking about his overall performance at the track, he pointed out that he always loves going the way since his first win, and the family connection makes it special. Almirola added that he had failed to execute many times despite having a top-5 car and would love to win the race for Ford on Sunday.

Michigan is always a weird place for me because, in my mind, I feel like I run well there. I won a Truck race there years ago, and from that point forward, I just always loved going to Michigan. My wife’s family is from Michigan, so I go to Michigan with such a great attitude,” Almirola is quoted by Speedwaymedia.com

We have had a few top-five cars at Michigan and didn’t execute, and things didn’t go our way with the restarts, and I didn’t get the result, so I’m confident this 10 team can bring us a fast car. I’m excited about going back. Going to Michigan, there’s always a lot of pride for the manufacturers. I’d love to go there and keep the trophy in Ford’s backyard,” he added.

SHR is confident going into the Michigan weekend with Almirola in the No:10 car, as he scored his first top-6 finish last Sunday at Richmond. The team is determined to build on that momentum, and the track’s personal significance for the driver also makes it special.

While talking about the momentum, Kevin Harvick’s teammate pointed out that whenever they have a fast car, it lights a fire in them and gives them confidence. He said halving the momentum is good, considering they are in a must-win situation.

Every time we bring fast cars, it lights a fire in the team and gives us confidence moving forward. It’s great timing heading into this last stretch when you’re in a must-win situation to make the playoffs,” Almirola said.
