NASCAR has announced the reinstatement of Rick Ware Racing driver Cody Ware after eight months of suspension. He was indefinitely sidelined from racing after his then-girlfriend filed an assault case against him back in April that got him arrested. Cody Ware was booked for assault by strangulation and assault causing serious injury over the incident that happened on April 3.

Now the Iredell County district attorney’s office has dropped the case after both parties involved refused to cooperate with prosecutors. With the decision, a couple more litigating involving both parties will be dropped as well. This includes the charge of assault and arrest warrant on Ware’s ex-girlfriend.

Another litigation is the civil lawsuits filed by Rick Ware Racing and Cody Ware’s father Rick Ware. This litigation claimed that she fabricated the case against Cody Ware sharing the wrong information with the police. Her actions had severe negative effects on the operations of the NASCAR Cup team regarding sponsorship opportunities.

As reported by Fox Sports, the suit filed claims that RWR lost a sponsorship deal worth around $3.5 million solely due to the assault charges. This includes a Biohaven deal that was signed to remain till the end of the 2024 season. They also claimed that the team lost an additional $300,000 since they had to hire part-time drivers to replace Cody Ware.

What is ahead for Cody Ware in NASCAR?

Cody Ware’s NASCAR career seems to be kind of at a crossroads. Despite coming it will bit hard for the team to land sponsorships for him considering not just the controversies of the past, but his performance as well.

Before getting suspended Ware started seven races this season. His best finish of 2023 was the P16 at Daytona 500. He finished P25 or worse in the remaining six races he ran and never showed much promise for a trop-20 finish in those races.

His long-time fight with mental health issues is another concern as the last eight months would have been too much to handle for the racer. How he will tackle these issues will be vital in his effort to revive his NASCAR career.

He will definitely have a seat in RWR to race in 2024 and their new partnership with RFK Racing to field full-time cars for Justin Haley will be greatly rewarding. The team can make their cars capable of scoring better results with the new partnership.
