Brad Keselowski breaks down how he went from ‘idiot to hero’ with RFK in 2023

2012 NASCAR Cup series champion Brad Keselowski raised eyebrows when he left Team Penske Racing to join the now RFK Racing as a co-owner/driver. He made a move to a mid-field team from the Ford giants, where at least one wins a season was guaranteed if he was able to fight for it.
He had one of the worst seasons of his career in his debut year with RFK, which saw him going winless for the first time since his debut season with Roger Penske. Keselowski finished P24 in the championship table, his second-worst finish since the rookie season. But in 2023, everything changed. Though he hasn’t won a race yet, he is considered one of the strong contenders for the title.
While talking about him going from an idiot in many fans’ minds to a hero by making RFK the top Ford side, Keselowski pointed out that he finds it funny how rhetoric changes as soon as everything starts going better for him. He added that things were bad as fans perceived it in the 2022 season.
“It’s funny how the rhetoric changes. A year ago, I was the idiot that left the team that finished fifth and sixth in points the last few years, and had a shot to win races and championships to, I think I finished 28th in points. And now, this year, I’m the hero, or whatever you want to call it,” Keselowski said as reported by Sportscasting.
“It’s kind of like you’re never as good and never as bad as whatever people might be saying about you. As I would have told people last year when I looked like maybe a not so smart person — things are better than you think they are,” the champion driver added.

RFK Racing is in an exciting journey under Brad Keselowski
It is safe to say that with their impressive 2023 season, RFK Racing has earned bragging rights in the Ford Cup garage similar to that of Penske and has eclipsed Stewart Haas Racing. While Keselowski is the present for the team, with his teammate Chris Buescher, they have someone for the present and future.

Chris Buescher, unlike his boss, has won three races in the last two seasons, with two of them coming this season. Keselowski, on the other hand, is the most consistent driver on the grid. He is the only driver in the last 12 who has scored a trop-10 finish in the last four playoff races. The team has the momentum to win the title. He just needs to win a race to give a concrete base to the predictions.
But he isn’t getting complacent over the poor performance; instead, he is enjoying the moments they have earned. He understands that the team has a lot of work ahead of them and is excited for that journey with the crew he has.
“I would say right now — got to keep it calm and not get too caught in our own press clippings at the moment. We’re just trying to enjoy the ride. Nothing is given. Everything is earned. We have a lot of work left in front of us, but I’m excited about the group of people we have. There’s some really good people in this company and on these teams, and we can do a lot of damage,” Keselowski said.
