Brad Keselowski reveals his true feeling about Chris Buescher’s Richmond win as the duo fails to reach RFK Racing’s ‘ultimate goal’
Brad Keselowski was the only driver to lead more than 100 laps on Sunday.

RFK Racing No:17 Ford Mustang driver Chris Buescher has once again proved why he is the perfect investment for the team for the future. He produced an impressive race on Sunday to secure his first win of 2023. He passed 25 cars that started ahead of him and undercut his boss Brad Keselowski on his way to victory lane.
RFK Racing had an impressive day at Cookout 400 that saw Brad Keselowski securing his second career win as the co-owner of the team. Unfortunately, the 2012 Cup champions haven’t won a race since joining their team last season. Keselowski and Buescher led 190 of the 400 laps of the race that, showcased RFK’s brilliance.
The former Penske Racing driver won stage two and went on finish P6 after a restart that saw Denny Hamlin nearly snatch away the victory from the No:17. The veteran’s mistake during pit-box entry lost him some valuable seconds and played a big part in his drop to P6. But that doesn’t make him feel bad as he is delighted by his teammate’s win surviving the restart chaos with perfect execution.
“Then from there, it’s just the strategies, guys on one stop, guys on two or three stops, and everything in between. They were able to call a great race. Chris was able to execute. Had a curve ball thrown at him there at the end with the spin. You’re thinking, Man, just let’s not lose this race with something silly happening. Glad that wasn’t the case,” Keselowski said after the race.
He added that the team didn’t get to the ultimate goal on Sunday, which is a 1-2 finish. But feels it’s the right step forward. Keselowski said, “Certainly tremendous execution. We wanted to win 1-2. That’s the ultimate goal. We didn’t get that, but we still had a heck of a day where we ran 1-2 of the parts. This is kind of the next step for us, is to be able to win races on a contender basis.”
In case you missed it:
Brad Keselowski is personally happier than he was at Bristol last season
In the 2022 season, on the playoff race at Bristol Concrete pavement, the RFK driver duo found themselves in a similar situation where they got the opportunity to dominate the whole event. Buescher won the race that Sunday after his boss blew the tires.
This Sunday, a similar fate awaited him. The time he lost in the pit box might have been the deal breaker as it helped the No:17 to undercut. If Keselowski was able to produce a flawless run, he would have locked in the playoffs instead.
But the No:6 Ford driver is happier today than he was last year at Bristol as an owner-driver. He said, “I don’t think it stings so much the way Bristol did. In both cases we had two good cars, and we were able to strike with the 17 car. That’s something to be proud of.”
