WATCH: Bubba Wallace embraces $3.5 billion worth team owner Michael Jordan after milestone night at Daytona
Bubba Wallace secured his maiden Cup playoff spot in 2023.
The 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace secured the Cup playoffs spot for the first time in his career in the premier stock car division on Sunday at Daytona. He made it to the playoff as the 16th driver and is one of the three drivers who made it without a win. Former Cup champions Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick are the drivers who made it with Wallace.
The No:23 Toyota Camry driver celebrated the personal milestone with his boss, Michael Jordan. The NBA legend built 23XI in 2021 with Joe Gibbs Racing Cup veteran Denny Hamlin. Wallace was the driver they built the team around, and their persistence finally paid off in 2023 when their driver secured the playoff he had been dreading since his debut.
The 23 crew and his wife, Amanda Wallace, were present to greet him once he got out of his car after surviving Daytona to land the playoff spot. Jordan joined the party, and the big man embraced his driver and said, “Well done, boy.” Wallace continued to celebrate the moment with his team, following the special moment.
Jordan proceeded to go to his co-owner, Denny Hamlin, who was in the middle of a pit road interview, to congratulate him as well. He did so by tapping his partner’s hat and passing a big smile. It is a special moment as they have cars in the playoffs for the first time as they missed the last in 2021, and in 2022, Kurt Busch had to give up eligibility after suffering a concussion.

23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin opens up about Bubba Wallace’s playoff entry
Hamlin, who also had an impressive 2023 season as well, pointed out that he is proud that the No:23 team has been able to make it to the playoffs. He said it’s a huge moment for the 23XI team as two of their cars are in the playoff.
He pointed out that without manufacturing Toyota, Joe Gibbs Racing and the 23XI team deserve the credit. He added that he is looking forward to Wallace getting better and better every race and how he will perform in the future.
“I’m really proud of the whole 23XI team to get two cars in the Playoffs in just our third year. It’s a testament to all of the hard work they’ve been putting in. You can’t do it without your manufacturer in Toyota, Joe Gibbs Racing for the alliance,” Hamlin said as, reported Speedway Digest.
“And the team itself for putting fast cars on the race track, and on top of that, the drivers working to get better. We’ve seen a really big shift for Bubba (Wallace) getting better. He’s stepping up, and I look forward to seeing what he does,” Hamlin added.
