23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace is one of the stars in the NASCAR paddock. Wallace is the sole African-American racer in the Cup garage. His presence and impressive race results helped NASCAR to attract a diverse fanbase to the sport. He recently recalled his racing debut and everything he remembered from the event.

Wallace revealed that he crashed out of the national event that featured 300-400 cars after a big spin. He pointed out that the only thing he could remember from the race was spinning out and brazing himself for a crash with a Chevy Suburban. The safety fence caught the current Toyota driver.

I know my first race was a national event with 300-400 plus cars in total. I remember spinning, and the last thing I saw was an old Chevy Suburban sitting there. All I thought was that I was going to cream the Suburban. But I came to a very soft stop. It was the catch fence that I did not see. That's really all I remember from my first race.

Bubba Wallace has come a long way since the debut race crash. From ARCA series races as part of Rev Racing to challenging for the Truck Series title with Kyle Busch Motorsports to now racing for Michael Jordan in the premier division after multiple seasons driving for Richard Petty.

Bubba Wallace’s father might have realized his son’s racing skills after his attitude toward the crash

Wallace claimed that he asked his father if he could fix the car and get back after the crash. Everything from the front bomber to the Nerf Bars of the vehicle was bent. Darrell Wallace Sr. understood that his son loves racing and has to show up next week.

But I did ask my dad if we could fix it and get back out there. The front bumper bar, Nerf Bars, were all bent up, and it was pretty mangled. But when I asked if we could fix it and get back out, he knew. Like, "All right, I guess we'll show back up next week." I guess that's where the love came from.

Wallace had his career-best season in the Cup this season. He finished the year P10 in the championship despite winning a race. He got into the R-12 of playoffs, their objective at the start of the season. The TRD driver is now focused on recuperating in the post-season and challenging for wins from the start of the 2024 season.
