Kyle Larson has been in high confidence going into the Sunday’s cup race at Watkins Glen as he was riding on the momentum he got from securing the Xfinity race win at the same track outracing Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron. The defending champion had a similar path to achieve his second trip to victory lane this season with Chase Elliott filling Byron’s position.

Chase Elliott, just like he has been in every road course race this season was in dominating form as he led 29 of the 90 lap race after starting from pole. Though Kyle Larson was making good progress in the final laps Elliott was in a comfortable position to secure a fifth win of 2022 but his decision to restart the race in the outside lane on the final restart cost him three positions.

Kyle Larson muscle passed the No:9 Camaro ZL1 in the first corner and he lost two positions to No:16 and No:22 cars who took advantage of the dual between the HMS duo. Though failed to secure the win Chase Elliott has secured the regular season championship which will see him having a solid advantage over his competitors in the postseason races.
